Photographic exploration of time-based gestures

Gesture is a natural form of human expression. By its action we articulate meaning in motion. In contrast to static poses, gesture imbues dynamic sequential patterns that can be deconstructed as static moments.

Through a series of premeditated hand-movements the camera becomes documenter and witness to an interaction between gesture and place. Long exposures reveal a history of motion and convey direction through light.

Having visited a place for the first time, a traveler can potentially discover more of its character by exploring the intrinsic patterns of daily life--gestures over time. This series attempts to create and capture certain patterns of light by enacting simple collaborative articulations of movement: panning up and down; craning and swooning; creating pitch, roll or yaw; building angular momentum through circular movements of the arm and wrist. Such combinatorial gestures reveal the hidden details of each journey.
